The Laggan Chair
I came across this chair
while rummaging through a shed in Laggan.
Though dirty and battered its quality shone
through the cobwebs.
Simple and sturdy and yet
lovingly detailed it was almost the
archetypal country chair, no shouting, no
frills, just well made and
well-proportioned.
Upon examination, I found
that though the chair was well used (as
shown by the worn foot-rail), not a single
one of the pegged mortice and tenon joints
(18 in all) had opened in the slightest,
after a hundred years of more.
This established the
quality of design and construction upon
which my Laggan range of furniture is based. |
