This is the
Trading Company of the Laggan Forest Trust
formed to carry out the detailed management
of operations involved in the partnership
between Laggan Forest Trust and the Forestry
Commission. It has taken over the duties of
the Laggan Forestry Initiative which until
1988 acted for the community in negotiations
and discussions with the Forestry Commission
to develop a pilot project for Community
Forest Partnerships.
The main objectives of the Laggan
Forestry Company are

Setting up and Managing the
project.

Liasing with the Laggan
Forest Trust.

Management of the
Partnership with the
Forestry Commission.

Business planning.

Design planning.

The
Company have been awarded funding from
the Scottish Land Fund and the Highlands
& Islands Community Land Unit to ensure
the continuity of the admin centre and
for the Projects Manager to research and
develop the following projects:
-
Gateway Project -
consisting of weather
Station, Meteorological
Museum and visitor
reception - built using
local timber.

Timber Processing within
the forest.
-
Holiday accommodation -
self catering units
within the forest -
built with local timber.
-
Acquisition of forest
areas, as and when
available.

Establish a multi-skill
squad.
-
Combined Heat and Power.
