Dear residents,
BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, are planning to carry out carriageway resurfacing works on three different sections along the A86 Between Laggan and Newtonmore.
Works will be carried out under a road closure with diversion, starting from 28th June to 16 July.
There will be no working on Friday and Saturday nights. See below table for full programme details. Location plans are also attached for geographic clarity.
A86 Machperson museum junction (8 Nights)
28/06/2026 @ 20:00 to 08/07/2026 @ 06:00
Night road closure with diversion 20:00 – 06:00

A86 River Spey (3 Nights)
08/07/2026@ 20:00 to 13/07/2026 @ 06:00

13/07/2026 @ 20:00 to 16/07/2026 @ 06:00
Night road closure with diversion 20:00 – 06:00

Due to narrow road widths, to ensure the safety of both the workforce and travelling members of the public during the resurfacing works, a full road closure will be in place with diversion via the A889 and A9. See General Diversion Plan attached.
Access to and from residential and business properties within the work area will be maintained, although there may be times when residents are asked to wait while the area is made safe.
Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times throughout the works.
While works are adjacent to and on the A86/B9150 junction in Newtonmore, the A86/B9150 will be closed with no access between Ralia junction and Newtonmore.
Outside of working hours, traffic management will be lifted, but a temporary speed restriction will be left in place due to the temporary road surface.
