Convoy warnings: Dalwhinnie to Spean Bridge (A86) 3 Feb–11 March

Posted on

We have been informed by Balfour Beatty that, there will be a number of police-escorted convoys travelling between Dalwhinnie and Spean Bridge over the next week. These are to deliver materials for the reinforcement of the high voltage electricity network from Ardmore on the Isle of Skye to Fort Augustus.

The delivery dates are as follows:

- 3rd February 2026: 6 vehicles per day
- 4th February 2026: 4 vehicles per day
- 10th-11th February 2026: 8 vehicles per day
- 17th February 2026: 8 vehicles per day
- 18th February 2026: 4 vehicles per day
- 3rd-4th March 2026: 9 vehicles per day
- 10th-11th March 2026: 9 vehicles per day

The size of these convoy groups will depend on Police Scotland's discretion and their available staffing; typically, each group will consist of 3–4 vehicles, rather than individually escorted vehicles.

On days like the 10th of February, with 8 vehicles delivering, this will mean two or three staggered groups, approximately an hour apart. This means the vehicles avoid travelling, and the site team avoid working, in the dark, reducing the risks to all involved with the deliveries.

The first group will depart from Hamilton services, ML3 6JW, at 9am and is expected to arrive at the Glen Mor site, PH35 4HT, by 2pm. This would mean passing Dalwhinnie at approximately 11:15am and Spean Bridge around 12:15pm on delivery days. This arrangement avoids school start and end times.

Alterations to the timings may occur due to traffic and weather conditions.
